The Captains Blog
August 2022
Welcome!
Stags, here it is, round 2 of Captains Blog for August 2022. Its the summer months and family holiday are truly in full swing - but the season is looming and the club is in a great place for another successful season. So without any further delay let's get into this...
Pre Season Training
August sees us approx 6 weeks into our pre season training, we have had a few weeks where we invited the community to our training. I feel these we’re highly successful and as a result we have at least 6-8 new players who have decided to come on board with the club. My highlight was definitely playing crab football, this appeared to be Jack Messenger's specialty with some moves that are akin to a drunk spider crab. We have also seen real success on our Tuesday sessions at Arena Fit Gym where we have all experienced the highs and lows of high intensity workouts. Well done coaches. Turnout to both sessions has been good but as always could be better so let's spread the word on how good these sessions really are!
New Kit On Order
Some club news and updates for you all. We have ordered our new kit and are gathering pace in sponsors for the club. This kit has been ordered in the most appropriate sizes for the position with lots of spares to go around as comfort for players was top of my list when putting my opinion about sizing forward. Both myself and the team manager, Stu Oakley, consulted on this work to ensure the correct sizes. However importantly to note for ordering stash etc; we will continue to use Raging Bull, who sell a vast range of essential stag equipment! Visit the 'Shop' section on our website for the link to order your club stash!
Season Start Delayed
We have some disappointing news that Hampshire RFU are looking to delay the season starting by approximately 2 weeks. This is due our pitch being too hard, and therefore unsafe to play on. Key to this delay is ensuring player safety and allowing us all to be contact ready. The postponed games are going to be played in March 23. We do now have a friendly arranged away against Farnham 3s on Saturday 10th September 1500hrs KO.

Vice Captain – Charlie Peters
Charlie Peters has done a fantastic job in collating all of the player survey results/feedback which can be read below.
Players Survey Results
As a committee, we are really keen on listening to and understanding this feedback to allow the club to grow and diversfiy. We shall communicate any changes we can put into place and we are looking forward to making these positive changes. Thanks to all of you who completed the survey. You can see how we are using your feedback to improve the club in the 'You Said We Did' document here:
Clubhouse Update
With regards to new club facilities, there isn't any further updates as of yet. Meetings with HPC have been cancelled as there have been no meaningful agenda items. HORFC have held a meeting with all of the other local sports groups to see on how we would be able to share the community space, so that it can become an important community hub for all things sport!
Regular Season Training
Training times and locations will be changing over the next few weeks as we start to ramp things up for the season ahead. Please watch out for updates on the social media pages.
