The Captains Blog

July 2022

Welcome!

Welcome stags one and all to a new feature for 2022 – 'The Captain’s Blog’. This blog is player focused and will be used to improve communication as well as reporting on topics such as training, matches and social events.

Pre-season training has commenced, and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) has taken place. There has been a restructuring of our league and fixtures are yet to be confirmed, but our illustrious social secrerary (Stu Oakley) has already planned socials out until December.

Pre Season

Hopefully you are all aware that pre-season training has started. This is on a Saturday afternoon at 1pm at Hartletts Park furthest away from the Cafe end. This is aimed towards all players, families, newcomers, and rugby nuts in general. Let's turn out in force and give the coaches something to work with.

Annual General Meeting

Last month saw the AGM take place on the 29th June, but sadly the player turnout could have been better. I am again Captain for the 22/23 season, and I would like to warmly welcome Charlie Peters as my right- hand man and your Vice Captain. Charlie was also successful in securing the Deputy Secretary's position for the coming season. I would like to offer my thanks to the lads who put themselves forward for positions but were unsuccessful - well done for doing so. There were no other significant changes in the committee structure and we all look forward to keeping up our forward momentum with all the hard work from last season.

Looking To The Future

The Hook Sports pavilion plans are moving forward, I sit on the committee and attend regular meetings along with our Chairman Adam Komrower. The plan is due to go to a public referendum in the coming months. The committee have been in talks with other sports clubs within Hook to see how they can share the facilities at the location as a community hub. I cannot stress to you enough the hours being spent and work going into the future of the club please support the club during this process where you can.

A Legendary Stag

Sadly, we say goodbye to one of the original stags this season and he has a big shirt to fill.... literally. I would like to personally thank Colin Lewis for his dedication to the club. I would also like to add the club has recognised Colin’s role and has appointed him as a Vice President. Congratulations and good luck in your future endeavours.

Quote Of The Month

"We will target each game on an individual basis"

Head Coach Rob Cruikshanks

For me this means we need to be selective and smart in how we approach games. It is a long season, and we need to sustain the team throughout.

The Players' Survey

A survey has been created to canvass your thoughts on training, socials, and the club. The results are anonymous, and it is an opportunity to have your say! The survey can be accessed by this link:

Finally

I would like to say how proud I am to lead the team into next season.

We have more to achieve and will only do this if we do it as a club.

Many Thanks Team, Dan Ross
